UUCP Governing Body

The Board of Trustees is the governing body for the UUCP. They meet the first Tues. of every month at 7 p.m. Board meetings are open to all, however, due to concerns of privacy, during executive sessions, if sensitive topics are discussed, guests may be asked to leave. UUCP Board of Trustees

Eddie Raynord Hadden has served as president of UUCP since July of 2009. His commitment to being a Unitarian Universalist includes serving for nine years on the district level as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Unitarian Universalist District of Metropolitan New York, as well as serving for five years on the national level as a member of the Unitarian Universalist Funding Panel for Social Responsibility.

Eddie was a pioneer African American Naval Aviator and Airline Pilot where he played a significant role in developing diversity initiatives. His commitment to social justice as well as his dedication to the local community includes being:

      • Councilman-at-Large for the City of Englewood
      • President and CEO of the Urban League for Bergen County
      • Trustee of numerous nonprofit organizations including Englewood Hospital and Medical Center.

Eddie has maintained a law practice in northern New Jersey since 1980. In addition to specializing in Commercial and Residential Real Estate, Medical Fee Arbitration, Aviation interests, and Accident Litigation, his firm has a history of also representing charitable organizations.

Mike Meyers-Jouan was born in New York City, but raised in the suburbs. He attended schools in Mamaroneck, New York. Today, Mike lives with his wife of 28 years, Sylvie in Wanaque, NJ.

Although his ancestors were Jewish, Mike was raised in a non-religious household. Mike was not satisfied with his experiences with Jewish congregations, seeking a spiritual community that would fit better with his scientific and engineering-based philosophy. In 2001, he discovered the UUCP, which he describes as his family.

Mike has spent over forty years working with computers, in everything from three man startups to Fortune 500 companies.

Prior to serving as Treasurer, Mike served on the Board of Trustees as Secretary and President.

Arlene Holpp Scala has been a member of UUCP since 2005. In addition to being a member of the Board, she is also Chair of the Program Team.

Currently, Arlene is a Professor and Chair of the Women's and Gender Studies Department at William Paterson University. She teaches many Women’s and Gender Studies courses including "Lesbian Issues," "Sex Equity in Education," “Women, Sport and Culture,” “Contemporary Feminist Issues,” “Racism and Sexism in the U.S.” and "Capstone,” the senior Feminar. Arlene earned her doctorate at Columbia University.

Arlene is currently conducting interviews for a book on the Butch/Femme Society of New York City, 1989-Present. She has lived Englewood since 1997 with her partner Donna Ezrol and numerous cats. Arlene and Donna have six adult children and two grandchildren.
